Fantastic Four for Sue!

Sue Thompson was once again in blistering form at the Cambridge tour to make it 4 out of 4 titles for the season. Only dropping an incredible six frames throughout the event, she breezed past Tracey Forster (5-1), World junior snooker champion Hannah Jones (5-1) and Sharon Wright (5-1) on the first day of play. New England International Amy Beauchamp faired best as she took two games off Sue in the Quarters, while Northern Ireland International Michelle Rooney suffered a 6-1 defeat to her in the semis.
Runner-up Amy Coley was delighted to make it through to her first main event final with some great results herself against Cath Slater (5-2) and Stacey McConnell (5-2), before dumping the number 1 seed Emma Cunningham out in the last 16 5-3. She followed that up with 6-4 wins over Liesa Conlin and Julie Fane to take her place against Sue in the final.
However the youngster was overwhelmed by the 10 time World champion, who didn't seem to miss a ball. Sue kept Amy in her seat for most of the match and ran away with a staggering 7-0 victory!

Sue is now 40 points clear at the top of the provisional rankings for 2011 and will be hoping to make it a clean sweep of victories at tour 5 in Kent next month. It will be only the second time in the history of the Ladies Tour that this will have been achieved, as Thompson did back in 2002.

Welsh Wizard Sharon Dickson cruised to the plate prize in style as she too barely dropped any frames enroute to the title. Knocked out of the main event by Amy Beauchamp, Dickson got her second wind in the plate, overcoming Lynn Blackshaw (4-0), Ladies World Masters champion Michelle Brown (4-1), Kerry-Ann Hunt (5-0 QF) and Helen Littlewood (5-2 SF), before running out the 5-2 victor against second-time plate finalist Kerry Griffiths.

Wytech Masters

The Wytech Masters is a ladies snooker event that will be running on Sat 25th Sept at the North East Snooker Centre in Clay Cross, Derbyshire.

This competition brings the best ladies snooker talent from around the world under one roof for a battle to win this coveted title cup. With the third Wytech Masters last September edging to a thrilling confrontation between world ladies Champion Reanne Evans and Maria Catalano, the event is quickly making a name for itself in the professional snooker fan's calendar.

The event fee is £20 to people that haven’t entered it before and will have a maximum of 40 runners. There is expected to be a good percentage of the 33 Ladies tour players attending, who will also be competing in the British Open the following day. This means extra places may be limited to about 16 given the number of players that have turned up in previous years.

National Ladies Pool Championship

The EPA are pleased to present the 2010 National Ladies singles with a £2500 prize fund and £650 first prize*.

Held at Vauxhall Holiday Park on Thursday & Friday 4-5th November 2010. Please note the competition will commence at 9am on Thursday 4th and will be completed on Friday 5th. Accommodation will be available at no extra cost for the Wednesday evening.

Closing date for entries is Friday 8th October.

Triumphant Thompson makes it 3 out of 3

Sue Thompson reigned supreme at the latest ladies tour event of 2010, making it three in a row for the year and four consecutive wins overall.
She made light work of day one at Players Lounge with wins over Maggi McMillan (5-0), England captain Jackie Baker (5-1) and England International Sharon Lunn (5-2).
However England newbie Julie Fane, who had defeated Sue in the World Masters earlier in the month, pushed her to the limit once again in the quarter final and it took two great frames from Sue, including a break and dish in the decider, for her to come through the winner 6-5. Next she faced another England newcomer, Amy Beauchamp, who had reached the semis for the first time. Amy saw a few chances elude her and Sue was missing nothing. Another break dish final frame saw one of the fastest finishes ever as balls crashed into several pockets and the remainder were drop ins - to take the match 6-3.
Fellow finalist Collette Henriksen had also found form at the tour after an under-par World Championships, overcoming Tracy Heaton (5-1), Amy Coley (5-3) and 10th seed Michelle Rooney (5-2) on the first day of play. She faced newly crowned World Masters champion Michelle Brown in the quarters but hardly missed a ball to sail through 6-1, and went on to do the same against Masters Runner-up Barbara Taylor 6-2 in the semi.
So the final was to be a repeat of Morley (T5 2009) and after both players being in great form over the weekend it was expected to be a close match. It was Collette who had the early breaks and should have been 3-0 up, but instead found herself 2-1 down and never recovered from there. Sue showed why she is the ten-time World Champion and raced away with the match 7-1.

Having being knocked out of the main event by Collette Henriksen, Amy Coley was delighted to go forward and take the plate prize for the second time since joining the tour. She didn't drop a frame in matches against Amy Dunk and Liz Disney, overcame the experienced Rena Marsden5-3 in the quarter final and a very impressive 5-0 over Anne-Lousie Arkle, who was going for three in a row! Her final against newcomer Katie Henrick got off to a flyer as she found herself 4-0 up. But Katie dug deep to bring it back to a deciding frame. Amy held her nerve well however and stepped up to break and dish the deciding frame.

This month saw many players from the EPA ladies tour compete at the highest level in the Fosters World 8 Ball Pool Championships held at the Imperial Hotel in Blackpool.

Sue Thompson was once again in unstoppable form as she was crowned Ladies World Champion for an incredible 10th time, dashing the hopes of tour seed #1 and former World Champion Emma Cunningham in the final. Thompson admitted she had not been playing at her top level during the event which just goes to show what a great player she is to still win in emphatic style!

After the disappointment of missing out on a World team & singles place, England International Michelle Brown was delighted to become the Ladies World Masters Champion for the first time. She encountered some tough opposition along the way including overall World team players Carly Smith and Barbara Taylor in the final.

Congratulations to Sharon Dickson who captained Team Wales to their first World Championship title, along with tour team mate Collette Henriksen.

Congratulations to Deb Burchell in qualifying for a place at this year's World Championships as part of the England Ladies squad, and to Helen Littlewood and Liz Disney for coming through the open qualifiers.

Well done also to Sharon Wright and Lynn Pinches in qualifying to play in this year's Ladies Masters competition.

Both events are being held at The Imperial Hotel, Blackpool in July.

Sue & Loopy do the double!

Sue Thompson was in blistering form once again as she cruised to her second tour win of the season in emphatic style. Dropping just two frames en route to the final with wins over Amy Dunk (5-0), Rebecca Osborne (5-0) and Stacey McConnell (5-0) on the first day of play, a 45 minute 6-0 win over Michelle Rooney in the last 8, and a 5-2 win over newcomer Katie Henrick in the semis, Thompson faced first time finalist Lyndsey Roberts to battle it out for the Tour 2 title.

England International Lyndsey, who also had some great wins on day one (Jeanette Baptist (5-3), Jo Coe (5-3) and Lisa Reynolds (5-2)), and excellent results to put out no.1 seen Emma Cunningham 6-4 in the quarters and 6-0 against Sharon Dickson in the semi, took an early 2-0 advantage in the final. She could have gone 3-0 up but Sue scraped the third frame and stepped up a gear from there. Lyndsey tested Sue in this match and put in a very good performance, but Sue didn't let her lead slip and ran out the winner 7-4.

Sue is now 20 points clear at the top of the rankings going into Tour 3.

Anne-Louise Arkle was thrilled to win her second consecutive plate prize of the year, beating close friend Helen Littlewood 5-2 in a final where hardly any balls were missed. Loopy, who was knocked out of the main event by Emma Cunningham, had some tough matches in the plate. She overcame Kerry-Ann Hunt (4-1), Emma Senior (4-3), Theresa Sheridan (5-1) and Sharon Lunn (5-4), before clinching the plate prize.

Sue Thompson wins at Morley and Loopy takes the plate!

Nine times World Champion Sue Thompson was in devastating form at the first tour of 2010, sailing to victory in emphatic style. Dropping just two frames on the first day of play against Gill Bennett (5-1), Emma Senior (5-0) and Sharon Dickson (5-1), Sue booked a Sunday morning quarter final place against England International Carly Smith. Last time these two players met Carly came from behind to snatch the win 6-5, and again it was Sue who took an early advantage but, as in the semi at Tour 3 last year, Carly fought her way back into the match. It went to a nailbiting final frame decider where Carly was first to the black, but after rattling it in the corner pocket, left the win on for Sue 6-5. That was a wake up call for Thompson who stepped up a gear in her semi against England International Michelle Brown, missing just one pot in the entire match to cruise to a 6-1 win and her ticket to the final.

Fellow finalist Collette Henriksen was also in fine form over the weekend with great results against Michelle Gatenby (5-0), Amy Coley (5-2) and Sharon Lunn (5-2) on the first day of play, and Liesa Conlin 6-3 in the quarter finals, before knocking out the new No.1 seed Emma Cunningham 6-3 in the semi finals. However, the Wales International was no match the 'The Master' in the final as Sue raced away with a 7-2 scoreline to take the win and the No.1 ranking back provisionally.

The plate event was littered with big names as they fell foul of their main event opponents, and it was Anne-Louise Arkle who came out on top to take the first prize of the new season. En route to the final she had wins over Sarah Ramsden (4-0), Anne Taylor (4-1), Amy Beauchamp (5-3) and Lisa Wray (5-3) before facing newly qualified England International Kerry Griffiths in the final, who had knocked out Lynette Horsburgh and Barbara Taylor in earlier rounds. Loopy took an early advantage though and ran out to a 5-2 result.

Grand Final Report

Sue Thompson is victorious at the EPA Ladies Tour Grand Final of 2009 but Emma Cunningham takes the top seed position for 2010!

In an amazing end of season performance, Sue dropped only a single frame throughout the whole competition until she met Emma in the final, overcoming Lissa Richardson (5-0), Hazel Dabrowski (5-0), and Tracey Forster (5-0) on the first day of the event. In the quarter final Thompson lost her frame of the competition, but she went on to beat Northern Ireland International Stacey McConnell 6-1, and continued to breeze on past England International Lyndsey Roberts 6-0 to reach her final third final of the year.

Emma also played some great pool over the weekend to reach her second final, beating Liz Disney (5-2), Jo Coe (5-3), and Michelle Brown (5-0) on day one. An impressive 6-0 victory over Selina Hammer saw her match up against Lynette Horsburgh for the fourth time in five tours! Emma continued her good record against the 2008 World Champion, winning the match 6-4.

Thompson hardly missed a ball in the final with an all round performance worthy of winning the tournament, which she did, 7-3. But for the first time in Ladies Tour history it wasn't enough to retain her number one ranking for the 2010 season, with Emma pipping her by just two Merit points!

Well done to both players on their achievements at the Grand Final!

Congratulations to Sharon Lunn for winning the final plate prize of the year.

Also well done to all competitors on the 2009 EPA Ladies Tour and thank you for your continued support.

Ladies Tour Grand Final

The Grand Final of the 2009 EPA Ladies International Pool Tour starts tomorrow at Morley International Snooker & Pool Centre. It will be all to play for for top seeds Sue Thompson and Emma Cunningham, Emma having provisionally taken the number 1 seed spot for 2010. Sue is hot on her heels though and with only four points separating the pair, it is due to go down to the wire.

Collette Henriksen claims the Ware tour for the second year running!

Emma Cunningham takes her first Tour win of the year

Leicester Tour hotel deal

Due to the Special Olympics being held in Leicester on the same weekend as the ladies tour event 3, hotels are being booked up quickly and are at a higher rate than may be expected.

Club 147 owner Ram has secured a deal with the Campanile hotel, which is located just across the road from the club, for £51.95 per room per night. This is reduced from the £70 rate currently being charged.

To take advantage of this deal please ring the hotel on 0116 261 6600 to book, quoting ref Club 147 before July 3rd. However, there is not guaranteed availability so get booked in quickly!

Top seed Thompson is champion at Cambridge

Alongside the open qualifiers this Saturday, Cambridge Snooker Centre will play host to the England Ladies team World Championship qualifier.

Team members Amanda Warnes, Anne Roccia, Deb Burchell, Candy Wright, Helen Littlewood, Kate Wringe, Lisa Reynolds, Michelle Brown, Niki Bayes and Victoria Griffith will all play off against each other in a round robin style tournament, with one player going forward to play in the World Championships singles event in July.

World Champion Horsburgh takes the Tour 1 title

THOMPSON RETAINS TOP SPOT

The end of the 2008 Ladies tour saw an exciting finish to the fight for top spot. With Emma Cunningham provisionally ranked number 1 going into the final tour on 88 points and Sue close behind with 84, it was always going to be a tense finish to the season and all down to this performance.

As the first days play came to an end both players were comfortably through to the quarter final stages, and each won through their Sunday morning 9am fixture with the same score line of 6-3. The semi’s saw Sue matched up against current world champion Lynette Horsburgh and Emma was to play Tour 4 winner Collette Henriksen. Both games were very close fought battles ending in final frame deciders. It was Sue to prevail from the all Scottish affair but Emma’s hopes of starting the new season as number 1 were dashed as Welsh international Collette won through to the final. Sue went on to clinch the final and collected the 14 points awarded to the winner with Emma taking 8 points for the semi final appearance. This means Sue will start as number 1 with 98 points with Emma following closely on 96.

With an excellent finish to yet another very successful year on the ladies tour we would like to thank all of the players for their continued support. We look forward to seeing you all next year and welcome any new players to the 2009 EPA international tour. To play your chosen sport at what we feel is the highest level in ladies pool is an honour and privilege and to play alongside the greats is a truly rewarding experience in itself. THOMPSON TAKES TOUR 5

Sue Thompson retains the number 1 spot for the beginning of the 2009 season by winning the fifth and final tour event of 2008. Sue encountered some very tough opposition and close fought games on her way to claiming the final tour event including young up and coming player Michaela Lester (5-2), Ex England international Sue Fletcher (5-0), Ex Bapto World champion Jo Kent (5-1), England international Liesa Conlin (6-3), a deciding frame nail biter with current world champion Lynette Horsburgh (6-5) before meeting tour 4 winner Collette Henriksen in the final, which resulted in another final frame shoot out with Sue eventually taking it 7-6.

Jo Coe finishes off great year in pool by landing the final plate prize of this year’s tour. Earlier this year Jo qualified for the England squad in great Yarmouth. Jo was beaten in the main event in round 2 by world champion Lynette Horsburgh. Jo played some quality opponents in the plate including Tracey Ayling (4-2), England teammate Clare seaman (4-3), Tour 4 plate winner Mary Cunningham (5-0), Kerry Griffiths (5-4) before meeting Sarah Day in the final for a final frame decider which went Jo’s way.

England ladies reunion charity match

On the 18th & 19th of October 2008 the current England ladies squad will take on a team of England ladies legends, captained by Andi Bennett from R1, in a friendly match at VQs pool and snooker club, Keighley.

The format for the day's main event will be a 1pm start played over 3 sessions, with a 3 person team event comprised of one present International, one past International, and one local, to be played on the Saturday evening.

There will be an auction for prizes donated by local businesses as well as raffles etc to raise money for the club owner Lee Vause's chosen charity, Manourlands respite centre for cancer patients.

It is set to be a fun packed day of ladies pool for players and spectators alike, so please spread the word and come along to support this worthy cause!

Riverside Pool Club confirmed for Tour 4

The Riverside Pool Club was confirmed yesterday as the venue for the fourth ladies tour of 2008. Situated in Ware, Hertfordshire, the club is already host to the Herts Pool Tour (96 Players one day event), Riverside Grand Prix, Riverside Amateur Players Championship, I.P.A. Professional Event.

With 10 Supremes, hot & cold food, poker, and a late bar license, the club is bound to be a hit with the girls!!

Leicester's new venue confirmed for Tour 3

The brand new new Club 147 venue in Leicester will play host to the Ladies tour this July after recently opening for business.

Located in the heart of the city, Club 147 has 12 Supremes, 2 9-ball tables and 8 snooker tables over 2 floors, and has 3 nearby hotels for player's convenience.

Collette Henriksen wins the first tour of 2008

Collette was referred to in the presentation as 'the smiling assisan' by tour director Shirley Jewkes, who commented not only on the fantastic pool Collette produces but also how she always plays with a smile.

Collette played excellent pool all weekend only dropping 7 frames enroute to the final. Impressive victories over Sharon Lunn in the quarter final and Sue Thompson in the Semi final lead Collette to the final against number 2 seed Emma Cunningham.

With both players clearly in form this promised to be an excellent display of pool but it was Collette who stormed ahead to clinch victory 7-2.

Leah Willet, Tour 1 plate winner

Having re-qualifed for the England ladies team a month ago, Leah returned to the tour after a year's break in style by claiming the plate prize.

She lost just 7 frames on the way to victory over Sue Ramsbottom in the final, after being knocked out of the main event by Suffolk county team mate Clare Seaman.
